Prince Edward Island has specific privacy legislation for organizations operating in the public sector, but unlike British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec, has no specific privacy legislation for organizations operating in the private sector. Instead, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to the private sector.
The Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner enforces FOIPP. The information and privacy commissioner is Karen A. Rose.
Public Sector Legislation
Prince Edward Island’s public sector privacy legislation is the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. You may also read the general regulations.
For example, FOIPP will apply to all departments, agencies, boards, commission and crown corporations of the Prince Edward Island government.
